iPhone, iPad and Other Mobile Devices

Introducing the world’s first Bible app optimized for iOS 5. Using Apple’s iBooks technology, you can now flip pages just like a real book. In addition, you can highlight, underline and take notes the same way you can on eBible.com.

We’re extremely excited with this launch and we believe you’ll be delighted with the same level of detail, simplicity and elegance that we put into the eBible.com website.

iPhone and iPad

Get it here at the Apple App Store.

Android, Blackberry and Others

We’ve also released a HTML5 optimized version of eBible. Simply go to your mobile device’s browser and point it to http://ebible.com. Our server will automatically detect that you’re coming from a mobile device and redirect you to the mobile version of eBible.

A native version of eBible on Android will be coming in the near future.

Thanks.

eBible Team.

Downloaded the iPhone app the other day. Really like the app! Just waiting on NKJV since this is the translation we use at my church. Also, another feature that would be great is an override or extension of the time the lock screen starts, as specified in the settings. I have noticed that using YouVersion in church that I don’t have to keep tapping the screen to keep the iPhone “awake”. Not critical, just a very nice feature for using in church.

Hi Stace.

The NKJV will be available starting next week on the web site. The update to the iPhone/iPad is being submitted and we anticipate it will take two weeks for Apple to approve it and update it to the app store. When you update the eBible app on your iPhone, you will be able to receive the NKJV then.

Hmm. Interesting request. I’ll let my developers know about it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Does your app support Kindle keyboard?

Hi Phyllis,

The basic Kindle does not currently handle apps the way Apple or Android devices do. So unfortunately we are not able to run on Kindle devices. We are on the other hand building support for the new Kindle Fire device since that is an actual Android device. This will be coming in a few months.

I am now using eBible on my iPad2 and find it incredible to use just so easy and the bookmark function makes my daily reading of the bible so smooth. I am using the ESV version until the New King James is ready but find it very good. Thank you so much, may the Lord bless all your work.

When will the e-bible app for android become available? Will it be optimized for tablets using Ice Cream Sandwich? And will the flip Page function be featured as well??

Hi Kevin. A very early beta version will be available in two weeks. It will not be optimized for ICS. Unfortunately, the Android market is highly fragmented and ICS currently only represent 1% of the entire Android market (see http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html). Flip functionality comes with ICS so that will not be available either until we launch for ICS. Our first version will be Froyo compliant. Once that is complete our next major version will focus on ICS. Hope this helps.

A little disappointed on the delay to ICS because I am about to buy a tablet(Asus Transformer Prime) and I wanted to be able to use your app at church, I currently use You Bible which is good but I like the features on your bible app. Since Android is using ICS to help to eliminate fragmentation I hope your version for ICS will not be long in the making. Any chance of an estimate of when it will be available?

It probably won’t be available anytime in the short-term. Despite Google’s attempt to eliminate fragmentation, ICS (5 months old now) is still only 0.4% of the entire market. The problem is Android devices are carrier-dependent. If the carrier does not update the device, the user will be stuck.

IMHO, the transition will likely take place next year when most Android 2.2/2.3 phone owners’ 2-year contracts expire. These users will upgrade to a newer phone. At that point, you’ll see a massive exodus to Android 5.0 (due out after summer this year). ICS will unfortunately be bypassed (not that its a bad thing). To answer your question, most likely we’ll move to support Android 5.0 and bypass ICS.

I have downloaded the app for my iphone 5 from the App Store.
Everything seems fine, until I download the NKJV. Once I try to open that version, the app crashes, and I cannot reopen it, thus having to delete and reload the app.

Any advise?

Hi Bobby. Hmm. After you reloaded the app, are you able to download the NKJV? Also is this a one-off purchase, or is this part of the Annual Supporter subscription?

Not sure what you mean?
I got the app from the Apple App Store.
Have it on my ipad2 as well with no issues.
Just having the problem with my iPhone 5.

Please understand that once I download NKJV, it makes the app un-usable, forcing me to delete it, then reinstall it, then download the NKJV again.
However, once I do that and then attempt to switch to it, the app once again crashes and becomes un-usable.

Hi Bobby. OK thanks for the info. We’ll get a fix to it asap. Unfortunately it will take about 1- 2 weeks to get the new version up. Apple manually approves every new app version and they take a long time to do it. So we won’t be able to sidestep this process.

Has anyone else reported this issue that you know of?
Thanks for your speedy response and willingness to act. I have been using this app for several years now, and my church uses the NKJ.
