ooBible Moves To eBible.com

by colin on September 28, 2011

It’s a great pleasure for me to announce that we are now officially eBible.com!

A month ago we acquired the eBible.com domain and decided to rebrand ourselves with this new name. We then launched the latest version of our technology to eBible.com. If you go there today, you’ll notice its a nice improvement over the previous version.

We will be migrating your account over to eBible.com in the next 7 to 10 days. This will take place next week and I will send out a confirmation email to you prior to the actual migration.

What does this mean?

  1. ooBible will no longer exist. eBible is now the official company name.
  2. Your ooBible account including your notes and highlights will be migrated to the new website.
  3. If you have an existing account there, we will merge the two accounts together. We will use your email address as the account key for this process. Your notes and highlights will all merge as one.
  4. This migration will take place in the next 7 to 10 days.

What new features will I get?

  1. You can now highlight *and* underline any individual word or words in a verse. You are no longer restricted to having to do the entire line. Annotation is now on a per translation basis.
  2. You can now highlight, underline and take notes on multiple verses in one single click. Just as you can select individual words, you can also select multiple lines at a time.
  3. We have a new WordPress/Drupal plugin that you can install on your blog or website. Any scripture reference you have on your web page i.e “John 3:16″ automatically gets converted into a link. When a user hovers over this link, it will show the contents of John 3:16. We call this new feature “VerseLink“. Click here for more details.

Can I start using eBible.com now?

  1. Yes you may. Simply open a new account and make sure you use the same email that you used in ooBible.com. When we migrate your old notes and highlights, we will tie it to the account that has the same email address.

Other Changes on eBible.com

  1. The news feed feature is being revamped. This feature is temporarily disabled.
  2. Bible teachers content is also being revamped. This feature is temporarily disabled.
  3. Note sharing is being revamped. This feature is temporarily disabled.

We’re extremely excited with this launch and we hope you’ll come check us out!

I’m really excited about the future of eBible.com. I was in the beta for YouVersion and, frankly, that tool has become cluttered and cumbersome. To emulate the tried and true “paper” experience digitally is a real winner. Let me know how I can help test new features or help out!

Thanks, Shawn, for the encouragement. We’re excited about eBible’s future, too. We like YouVersion’s mobile but their site could be less cluttered. We like them, though, having met with them. But our mobile apps is coming out soon and we’re very excited that!

I’m certainly not maligning the YouVersion crew. They have a great product but, frankly, the more competition there is, the more end users win. :)

Really enjoying eBible.com – I’ts my new medium for doing daily devotions. I love the highlighting and the note taking. I find I journal more now that I can type then I did with writing in a book. I can’t wait to get the note sharing ‘back’ like it was in ooBible – love sharing my struggles/insights, etc with friends and accountability partners.
