Shadow Highlights and Annual Subscriptions on eBible.com

Shadow Highlights

One of the most powerful features on eBible.com is the ability to do word-level highlighting and layering one highlight on top of another. Now for the very first time you can see highlights you did from another translation into your current translation as well.

Here’s an example of a highlight I did in KJV.

I then switched to the NASB translation and see this.

Shadow highlights from KJV appear on the NASB translation

Highlights from other translations appear as gray in color. Now if I choose to put my own highlight on this translation, it will override the shadow highlight.

Are the study resources available off line for annual supporters?

Study resources are currently not offline enabled yet because they’re quick large and if you download it all, it will take up quite a fair bit of your device’s memory. However, we’re looking into making it work.

Hi Colin, first off, just want to say using e-Bible has been great! It’s been a blessing to be able to use my ipad Mini for portability and to be able to take numerous notes during my pastor’s sermons. Plus the interface is great! Love also the ability to have my notes transfer across all devices. As a Deacon and Teen Leader in my church, I have been recommending the app to numerous people within our church, including my teen group… until now. Unfortunately, the study features all of a sudden turned into a paid subscription without any notice. Ever since the last eBible update, it switched over to the paid program. I honestly didn’t even know that the switch had happened until the “Strong’s” option and eventually the “Define” option disappeared without any explanation. It’s really too bad you decided to go this direction with such great and helpful study tools. Even my pastor was considering changing over. Totally understand that there are probably copyright issues, etc in using the Strong’s concordance and dictionary… but to go from free to a $30.00 fee a year is overkill… there should be a one-time fee to add this functionality to the app. I understand that businesses need to make a profit to survive, but be careful not to loose sight of the ministry aspect… remember there might be families like mine, that would like to use the study tools, but $30 per family member makes it impossible… that could potentially be over $100 a year for something that was initially free! Plus, as the teacher for my teen group, I have to take back my recommendation to use your app for their weekly Bible study. You might consider reading the new reviews for the app… before the last update, the app was perfect, I could honestly recommend it to everyone, even if I had to pay $5 – $10 to add on the study materials, but now… no can do!

Hi.

I totally understand your situation. We actually went live on the subscription model back in October. Unfortunately, because of issues with Apple, they delayed our app for 5 months. Hence the disconnect between why the web is subscription=based, but the IOS was not, for premium content.

With regards to the business model, we’re still experimenting with what works and doesn’t work. One thing for sure is, one-time purchases does not work for our service. The reason for this is, unlike a normal eBook, or other traditional apps on iPad, our app is not stand-alone. The eBible app still connects back to our server to sync notes, highlights, get other content that’s not saved on your device (else your phone will run out of memory) etc. Imagine if you paid a one-time $10 fee, but we have to pay for our server operations to host this service for the next 50 years. The numbers don’t add up.

With regards to family or church-level purchases, we will definitely put some thought into this. I agree that having to do annual subscription for a large family is problematic. We do however have on-going promotional discounts that I could get you set up with. Let me know.
