The Mighty Mouse

So after a few small bumps with our user account database last night, we launched the The Mighty Mouse release for you all to check out. Have a look and let us know what you think by posting a comment down below. Some of new the things you’ll notice are:
  • New search results page
  • More information relating to each search result
  • New Answers section
  • Improved usability for the bible browser

We know there are still some bugs and our support for web browsers doesn’t go much past firefox and ie6, but we are working hard to iron out all the details and want to hear if you enjoy using the site. so without further adieu here is: The Mighty Mouse.

    1) I have a bit more info on the bug I posted to the other thread.

    I searched for “1 tim 4:1-16�, then before it finished I opened up the NCV in parallel. I got the following message popup a few dozen times. “Couldn’t find verse for ordinal=29xxx�

    The issue only seems to be when loading the NCV, before the commentary on the left pane finishes loading. On the latest occurence, there were at least 40 popup messages for the above search.

    2) The commentary on the left. I think having the commentary there is great. However, it only shows the commentary for the first verse you search for, is there a way to click “next verse” or something?

    3) Out of curiosity, where do the ”...is associated with the following topics:” items come from? They’re a great addition.

    4) I really like the latest layout for the answers. It’s much more intuitive like this. Also, the “Related Verses” is an excellent addition.

    5) I love the changes you made to the way you open up another bible.

    6) Oh yeah, and the cookie thing with the links in the commentary (ebible.com vs. www.ebible.com) still seems to be there.

    1 cont.) FYI, I got that bug to pop up, just swiching bibles from NKJV to NASB (no dual-pane).

    7) I noticed, in some of the answers from “What Does The Bible Say About…” say see XYZ on page N. I’m not sure what you would do with that, but it does seem a bit odd.

    8) I like the organization of the answers page. But, when you have a search like ‘Wisdom’, you get “What Else?” and “Related Verses”. That’s fine, except “What Else?” doesn’t really make sense without a “What is it?” section….

    9) Searching answers for “love”. Part of the “What is it?” section says “Paul devotes the entire chapter of to this virtue.” It doesn’t actually say which chapter we’re talking about (I can guess… 1 Cor 13?) Any chance some content is missing?

    Ummm, yeah, about the popup… that was just a little debug info that we forgot to take out, sorry about that. Chalk it up to a long dev cycle.

    I really like some of the features you guys have.

    1) I like the ability to control satellites in that left-hand widget you put on the interface. very life like and i enjoy playing Dr. Evil whilest flying the satellite in orbit.

    2) The Webcam feature is great! now i can spy on you guys when i do my studying!

    3) I like the hands free, thought-i-fi-ca-tion module you added in this release! It really does do what i want it to do only by thinking about it!

    4) Where did you guys get that version of the bible that was translated into Ewokese from the Star Wars Universe.

    So thats about it, thanks for releasing this guys… unfortuneately not to me yet :(. Just thought i’d write a bit of levity while waiting in line for an account! Keep rockin guys, i can’t wait to see what you have created…

    I just checked out the eBible tonight for the first time. Really slick stuff. One thing I would love to see is the ability to do away with the mouse. Navigating through bible pages is currently best performed using the keyboard. The scroll buttons are a little too slow for my liking, but the shortcut keys to page down and skip from chapter to chapter are great. What’s missing is a hotkey to initiate a new search. Once my results are returned, I should just be able to push 1 through 9 or something to go to my search results. Then I could sit back on my couch with a wireless keyboard connected to a media PC and plan a lesson for Wednesday night bible study.
