With more and more coming inside to play with (I mean ..errr.. test) eBible.com, we figured some discussion forums were in order. Head on over to http://discuss.ebible.com and kick off some conversations on what you like or don’t like about the site. Or perhaps you could just post about how your day is going, your choice.

(now – back to working on next week’s big beta launch!)

Jedi Mindtricks

Posted by Scott L Tue, 25 Apr 2006 17:13:00 GMT

Well we sent out a huge schwack of invites last night to people waiting in the line, and I want to welcome all the new Alpha users to eBible.com. We also released a bunch of bug fixes and we are gearing up for our biggest release yet. After many months of hard work we are approaching a huge milestone on May 2nd, and that milestone is: BETA Launch! I know its a pretty overused word lately, it seems like every new “Web two-point-ohâ€?-ish site out there has the four letters B-E-T-A printed right underneath their new and shiny logo and for most people it doesn’t mean anything, and you know what, it shouldn’t. For us however it means something huge, it means users. We are going to start inviting more and more people every day to use eBible.com and hopefully enjoy using it. We will also start handing out invites so that you can invite friends and family to come sign-up for a free account. So all you people still in line, just hang tight, it shouldn’t be too long now!

Wasaaaaaaaaaabi!

Posted by Scott L Mon, 17 Apr 2006 18:13:00 GMT

We hope everyone had a great holiday and didn’t contribute too much to the extinction of the chocolate Easter bunny. Ignoring the theme of the season we have decided to name this release ‘Wasabi’, for no other reason then it happened to be what was in front of us while we were discussing what we should name it. Along with this release comes some new and delicious treats:

  • Added the KJV to the bible browser
  • Added account management options for changing password and managing future content
  • Fixed some technical and usability bugs that were on the list for awhile

The main thing that has kept us busy over the last few weeks has been the eBible store where you will be able to search and purchase from literally thousands of books and bibles. We are really excited about launching the new store as well as continuing our work on the eBible.com search site. There is still a ton of work ahead but we are excited in the direction we are headed and can’t wait to implement some of the new features we have been planning!

The Mighty Mouse

Posted by Scott L Wed, 22 Mar 2006 18:22:00 GMT

So after a few small bumps with our user account database last night, we launched the The Mighty Mouse release for you all to check out. Have a look and let us know what you think by posting a comment down below. Some of new the things you’ll notice are:
  • New search results page
  • More information relating to each search result
  • New Answers section
  • Improved usability for the bible browser

We know there are still some bugs and our support for web browsers doesn’t go much past firefox and ie6, but we are working hard to iron out all the details and want to hear if you enjoy using the site. so without further adieu here is: The Mighty Mouse.

Small delay...

Posted by Mark Tue, 14 Mar 2006 20:59:00 GMT

Just a quick note that the team is working hard still for the “Mighty Mouse” release and we will have to delay the deployment until at least tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone for their comments on the Roundhouse Kick release.

For those of you in the lineup still, tomorrow or thursday we will be letting a whole swack of people into the alpha – so hold tight!

Roundhouse Kick

Posted by Mark Tue, 07 Mar 2006 02:13:00 GMT

The Roundhouse Kick release came out on Wednesday and we want to hear if you think we are heading in the right direction. Post a quick comment below to help motivate us towards the March 14th and April 4th releases. Usual t-shirt offer will apply…

Moo...

Posted by James Tue, 07 Mar 2006 01:37:00 GMT

Do you remember that scene in Napoleon Dynamite where the school bus is driving by a farmer about to shoot his cow? We decided that the eBible Alpha group over in yahoo groups is worthy of the same fate. So we shot it… er… shut it down… depending on how sadistic you want to be about it.

So from now on, we’ll post updates on alpha releases, and other news here for you to give us feedback on. No yahoo account to sign up for, no need for huge epic responses (unless you want to).

Thanks!

Why should I?

Posted by Mark Tue, 21 Feb 2006 23:26:00 GMT

One impatient person signed up with the following email address the other day:

whyshouldiwhenthereareotherfreebiblesonline@quitthecrapandjustopenitup.com

He/she is right, there are other free Bibles online. Why should anybody care about the upcoming eBible.com? Why should anybody sign up to get in line for an alpha account?

I simply answer with … Why not? eBible.com is shaping up to be a cool web application and getting in on the ground floor means you get to help make it the best it can be.

Maybe we need some way to kick all the grumpies out of line. What do you think?

Valentine's Release

Posted by Mark Fri, 17 Feb 2006 16:41:00 GMT

Did you know?

That nearly 60 percent of all Valentine’s Day cards are purchased in the six days prior to the observance, making Valentine’s Day a procrastinator’s delight.

In similar style, we worked on the eBible.com Valentine’s release right up until the last minute on Tuesday before releasing it to our growing alpha group. A few more of you lucky people in line were invited into the inner circle to test drive the site and so far the feedback is encouraging.

Now if you are reading this blog you are probably still waiting in line. Sorry about that. We let in about 100 new people but still have 942 in line as of this morning. The next release is a week and a half away and we will show more love to those waiting in line. Stay tuned.

Random Bible Facts - Contest

Posted by Mark Mon, 06 Feb 2006 23:06:00 GMT

eBible.com has spent the last few years counting every chapter, verse, word and letter in the Bible. It was a long process but surprisingingly fun. Here are the results:

  • 1,189 chapters
  • 31,102 verses
  • 783,137 words
  • 3,566,480 letters

OK, so we didn’t actually do the counting ourselves. We’ve been busy doing other stuff with all 3.56 million letters of the bible.

We believe competition is good and healthy so today marks our first mini-contest. The first person to post a comment with the longest name in the Bible will be personally escorted in VIP-style to the front of the lineup. That means you jump ahead of a whole swack of people patiently waiting in line and get your own alpha pass on Valentine’s day (tuesday).
